New Starters 2022
We are delighted that you will be joining our school in September 2022. This is a very exciting time for the children and parents and we are really looking forward to meeting you all and helping to make starting school a positive and rewarding experience for your child.
On this page you can find information to help you and your child begin your journey at Springfield. There are photos and information about the teaching staff, the learning environment and our induction and transition arrangements. For more information about our curriculum please click here.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to our EYFS setting.
Meet the Team
New Starters Staff (ID 1268)
The children will be split into two class groups, either Class R1 or Class R2. Although we split the children into two classes, the classroom is one open space and all the children will free flow and mix together.
To help familiarise your child with our setting, please have a look at some of the exciting areas they will be able to explore during their transition.
Induction and Transition
We hope you have all received your welcome letter from us detailing the induction and transition arrangements. If you haven’t received this letter, please contact our school office.
We understand that the transition process can be a very unfamiliar, daunting and unsettling time for some children and parents and we want to ensure that we offer you both the very best possible start at Springfield Primary School.
At Springfield, we understand the importance of transition and we see transition as a process and not a single event. We want our children to experience a smooth educational and emotional transition from one phase to the next. This will ensure that children make the best all round progress, feeling safe and secure. We also want parents to feel well supported enabling them to support the transition for their child confidently. We do this through our school readiness programme, formal induction day and one to one meetings with parents. Additional transition arrangements are made where needed to ensure that all children are fully supported.
Our school readiness programme is offered to all of our new starters. The programme consists of three additional transition sessions/workshops focused around school readiness and preparing your child for September.
These sessions aim to:
- Support parents in further understanding the term “School Readiness” and what it means for your child. Answer and resolve any questions or worries you have about your child starting school.
- Develop parent and child relationships and begin to work together in partnership, to improve outcomes for your child in relation to school readiness.
- Increase parents understanding of the EYFS expectations, children's learning and development and how parents can support their child’s learning at home.
- Support the children’s transition and settling in to school, developing confidence in the school surroundings and building relationships with new teachers to ensure a smooth transition in September.
As part of the welcome pack, parents and children have been invited to our ‘stay and play’ school readiness workshops at Springfield Primary School on the following dates:
Monday 13th June
Monday 20th June
Monday 27th June
Parents can choose a session time
(this time will remain the same for every session)
1:00pm - 1:30pm
1:40pm - 2:10pm
2:20pm - 2:50pm
Our workshops are a great opportunity for you and your child to get to know more about our school and to get to know some of the adults who will be caring for your child in September. Your child will have the opportunity to get to know the school environment and spend time having fun, playing and learning alongside their new friends but in a smaller group before our induction afternoon.
To confirm your place and session time, please contact our school office on 01332 673846 by Friday 10th June.
Our induction afternoon is being held on Thursday 7th July 2022 from 1:30pm.
From 1:30pm yourself and your child will be able to come into their new classroom and explore the setting! The children (and parents) will have the chance to meet all their teachers and the children that are going to be in their class in September.
At 2:00pm, parents can attend the induction meeting in the school hall with Mr Blackwell, our Executive Head Teacher, Mrs Joyce, our Head of School and Mrs Jones, Assistant Head for an introductory talk. We will explain how the arrangements will work during the first few days in September and how we will be supporting your child during those very important first few days, and during the course of the year.
Please email email@example.com or telephone 01332 673846 to confirm your attendance at the induction meeting.
Our one to one parent/carer meetings are to discuss your child in more detail. It will be with their class teacher and an opportunity for us to gain a fuller understanding of your child and family and how we can fully support them in September. Parents will be able to sign up for these meetings at our induction afternoon. The meetings will take place on the afternoons of 11th, 13th, 18th or 19th July and meetings will last about 10 minutes.
School uniform is supplied by Morleys, Unit 2 St Mary’s Retail Park, 446 Nottingham Road, Chaddesden, Derby, DE21 6PE. A representative will be at the induction meeting on Thursday 7th July and there will be an opportunity to purchase and order items of school uniform and equipment. Choosing Springfield Primary School for your child is one of the most important decisions you have made as a parent and we look forward to working closely with you over the coming years to make your child’s time with us happy and successful.
